Purpose

The Mechanical Engineer will develop mechanical and piping engineering deliverables during various project execution phases in a multi-disciplinary setting. The Engineer will work under the supervision of a Senior Mechanical Engineer. The Engineer must demonstrate a high degree of self-execution and be able to identify and establish next steps independently, with limited supervision. Requirements

  • To generate and execute technical deliverables including:

    • scoping.

    • work breakdown and,

    • allocation as well as generation of technical mechanical and piping specifications and designs in Greenfields and Brownfields projects.

  • Ensure that discipline deliverables have been executed in accordance with the necessary technical standards, specifications, client requirements, applicable internal quality systems, and interface requirements with other work/disciplines.

  • Investigating and understating scopes of work with the affinity for identifying gaps or potential showstoppers.

  • The Engineer must demonstrate a fundamental knowledge of how projects are executed, from Concept engineering through Construction and hand-over.

  • Interfacing and liaising with clients during project proposal, design, and construction phases.

  • Interfacing and liaising with supply, fabrication and construction subcontractors during project proposal, design and construction phases.

  • To perform discipline inputs in MFD (P&ID) reviews, HAZOP study, Model and constructability reviews, and Mechanical/design philosophy review meetings internally and with clients.

Qualifications/Experience

  • B Eng. / BSc(Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Three to Eight years experience in industrial mechanical and piping engineering projects. Including design experience and implementation (Shutdown) experience in the Petrochemical Industry.

  • Registered as a candidate with ECSA, (Pr. Eng would be advantageous).

  • Experience in the application of ASME codes, API Standards, Pressure

  • Equipment Regulations, SANS 347, and other international standards for vessels, piping and rotating equipment.

  • Experience in projects involving static mechanical equipment, rotating equipment and piping.

  • Exposure to piping and mechanical fabrication and construction projects and processes.

  • Experience in projects that involve multi-discipline teams.

  • Vessel and piping design experience would be advantageous.

  • Affinity for detail engineering and a passion for mechanical engineering, specifically focused on a combination of mechanical (Static and Rotating) and piping engineering.

  • Ability to work under pressure.

  • Strong team player (good interpersonal skills).

  • Strong written and oral communication skills (internally and to clients).

  • Self-starter and able to work independently.

  • Ability to prioritise with good time management.
