We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for the 132/400 kV 500MVA transformer manufactured by WEG in Brazil!
This state-of-the-art transformer is a critical component of the Sun Central Project, a cornerstone in our mission to strengthen the Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd transmission grid and boost South Africa’s energy infrastructure.
Over several days, Proconics, WEG, DNV, and SolarAfrica Energy joined forces to rigorously test and confirm that the transformer meets all technical and performance requirements. Here's a look at some of the key tests performed:
🛠 Insulation Resistance Tests: Verifying the integrity of the insulation system
🌩 Lightning and Switching Impulse Tests: Simulating high-voltage surges to ensure durability
🔌 Power Factor and Capacitance Tests: Assessing dielectric properties under operating conditions
⚙️ Current Transformer Testing: Ensuring accuracy and functionality
🏗 On-Load Tap Changer (OLTC) Functional Tests: Verifying reliable operation in live conditions
Thanks for the dedication and collaboration of the teams involved:
Proconics, represented by Takalani Mamburu and Sandiso Bhuda Pr. Eng.
DNV, represented by Thapelo Mumba and Lukas Argenta.
WEG, with Jamie Reid and Antonio Estevan providing outstanding hosting and technical expertise.
SolarAfrica Energy and NCTSA for their ongoing support.
This transformer is now set for shipment to the SunCentral Project site, where it will soon be integrated into the Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd transmission grid, helping us take a major step forward in reducing power outages and reinforcing South Africa's energy reliability. 🌍💡
At Proconics, we are proud to deliver innovative solutions that bolster the future of energy infrastructure. Our team is excited to welcome this vital equipment on-site and continue driving the project towards completion.
Together, we are powering a brighter, more reliable future for South Africa!
