Proconics Celebrates Young Engineering Excellence at the University of Pretoria
At Proconics, our mission to solve local problems with local talent is deeply rooted in how we build for the future. That’s why we continue to invest in education — where future engineers are being shaped, challenged, and inspired.
As part of our ongoing partnership with the University of Pretoria’s Department of Chemical Engineering, established in December 2021, we’re proud to support both undergraduate achievement and postgraduate research through dedicated awards and funding initiatives.
This year, we were honoured to present the Proconics Academic Excellence Awards to two outstanding undergraduate students:
Hendrik Fredrik van Buren
Matthew Daniel Strauss
The awards were handed over by Ludolph de Klerk, representing Proconics, at a recent ceremony on campus. These young engineers exemplify excellence, commitment, and the kind of innovative thinking our industry needs.
A Holistic Investment in Engineering Education
Our partnership with the University of Pretoria includes:
Annual awards to the top two students in the Chemical Engineering undergraduate programme
Financial sponsorship for selected Master’s and PhD students, enabling them to pursue critical research and innovation in engineering fields aligned with South Africa’s future needs
These efforts are designed not only to recognise achievement but to build a pipeline of capable, local engineers who will one day design, maintain, and improve the systems that power our country.
Why It Matters
At Proconics, we understand that sustainable solutions start with people. We are a proudly South African company, and our long-term impact depends on empowering homegrown talent to lead, innovate, and rise to the challenges our communities and industries face.
Our collaboration with the University of Pretoria is one of many ways we live out this purpose — by partnering with academic institutions, supporting skills development, and actively contributing to the future of engineering in South Africa.
To Hendrik and Matthew, we say congratulations! We’re inspired by your journey and look forward to seeing where your path leads next.
