Purpose

The Senior Manager: T&D HV/EHV is a key resource responsible for overseeing and guiding

design activities for Proconics’ HV transmission and distribution infrastructure projects. You will

have both high-level strategic input into the direction of the business as well as be required to

lead the HV Primary Plant and Overhead Line Transmission design teams. The current work

includes primarily new infrastructure for the balance of plant portion of HV projects.


Your role will include overseeing and expanding the technical teams by recruiting and training

other senior and junior Engineers to increase the capacity to be able to support the design and

construction support for multiple projects in their different phases. The Senior Manager will be

responsible for overseeing the design, planning, implementation, and management of projects.


This role requires strong leadership skills, in-depth knowledge of HV design principles, and the

ability to manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously. The Senior Manager will play a

key role in guiding the engineering team, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and

efficiency, while maintaining strong client relationships.

Requirements

• Engineering Management and Coordination:

▪ Lead and manage multiple HV EBOP projects, ensuring timely delivery, within scope,

and within budget.

▪ Develop and manage project plans, including resource allocation, timelines, and risk

mitigation strategies.

▪ Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including clients,

contractors, and regulatory bodies.

• Leadership & Team Management:

▪ Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineering teams, fostering a

collaborative and high-performance culture.

▪ Oversee the recruitment, development, and performance management of engineers

and technical staff.

▪ Lead regular team meetings to review project progress, resolve issues, and ensure

alignment with organizational objectives.

• Design & Technical Expertise:

▪ Lead and oversee the design and technical aspects of HV EBOP projects, ensuring

adherence to industry standards and best practices.

▪ Design, engineering and costing of tailor-made energy solutions for Solar PV, Wind and

Battery Storage clients.

▪ Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.

• Client & Stakeholder Management:

▪ Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and partners, acting

as the primary point of contact.

▪ Prepare and present project proposals, progress reports, and technical documentation

to clients and senior management.

▪ Identify and pursue new business opportunities in alignment with the company’s

growth strategy.

• Financial Management:

▪ Develop project budgets and ensure efficient use of resources to maximize

profitability.

▪ Monitor and report on project financials, including cost control, invoicing, and

procurement.

▪ Implement cost-saving measures and optimize resource allocation without

compromising quality.

• Risk & Quality Management:

▪ Identify and mitigate risks associated with project design, construction, and

operations.

▪ Develop and implement quality control and assurance procedures to ensure the

highest engineering standards.

▪ Address and resolve any issues or conflicts related to project execution or quality.

• Compliance & Sustainability:

▪ Ensure that all projects meet legal, regulatory, and environmental standards.

▪ Promote sustainable engineering practices, incorporating green design principles and

technologies where feasible.

▪ Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and new technologies

Qualifications/Experience

  • Pr. Eng/Pr. TechEng registered with ECSA.

  • BEng/B.Sc/BTech (Electrical).

  • At least 10 yrs. demonstrable experience in engineering, design and delivery of large-scale

    renewable energy power plants, with at least 3 years of management experience.

  • Good understanding of the various Grid Codes within SA and regionally.

  • Experience in preparing proposals in the T&D/Renewables space up to 765kV.

  • T&D EPC experience an advantage up to 765kV.
