Operational Risk Control
&  Assurance

SERVICE OFFERING

Proconics has a long-standing commitment to execute projects for operators of critical infrastructure processing hazardous materials. As part of this commitment, Proconics provides expert operational risk control and assurance services. Proconics is uniquely positioned to identify and mitigate the risks associated with processing hazardous materials and design them out, either by eliminating the hazard or engineering reliable prevention and mitigation measures.

PROCESS SAFETY

Proconics provides a wide range of Process Safety and Fire Protection services. The Proconics approach to Process Safety and Fire Protection is to identify and assess the risk associated with site-specific hazards and design them out of the process, either by eliminating the hazard or engineering reliable prevention and mitigation measures.

FIRE AND GAS MAPPING

Fire and gas detection is a commonly utilised mitigation measure to ensure early detection of loss of containment. The efficacy of the solution is heavily reliant on the accurate layout and placement of detectors. Prescriptive, geographic-based detector placement methodologies are often employed as they require less engineering effort upfront. The drawback is that these result in a higher detector count of questionable contribution, and therefore yield limited ability to evaluate the performance of the design. Proconics provides Risk-Based Mapping services utilising comprehensive modelling techniques and engineering tools which enable the least cost, performance-based solution in a brown -or greenfield environment.

Consequence and Risk Analysis

Explosion Modelling:

In a vapour cloud explosion, a pressure front, generated by a fire (flame front) moves through the clouds at speeds of 100 m/s or greater.  Ignition of accumulated gas in confined or semi-confined areas could result in an explosion.  The overpressure generated will depend on the degree of congestion and confinement of the process area, and the gas cloud size.

Other type of explosions, including chemical/physical can also be assessed.

Proconics models explosions using spesialised software considering fluid properties, detonation location, proximity and location of infrastructure, and its structural strength.

Fire Modelling:

For Fire scenarios, Proconics typically use Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses to perform modelling considering factors such as leak source location, fluid properties, nature of the release (high pressure or area), topography, air movement (wind, speed and direction), ambient temperature and obstructions (equipment, buildings and structures).

Toxic Release Modelling:

If a toxic material is present in a process stream, and a loss of containment from storage occurs, the potential dispersion of the resultant gas cloud must be determined and assessed in terms of its lethality.  Proconics use spesialised software to perform dispersing modelling, considering leak location, composition, toxicity and ventilation profiles.
