Riverside 3MW Solar Power Plant

Riverside 3MW

Renewable Projects

Below you will find a variety of project features, showcasing Proconics' versatility and agility on project execution.

Our Scope

The design, procurement, supply, installation supervision, and commissioning of all parts of the electrical works from the DC cables connecting the modules to the outgoing 33kV switchgear.

Proconics Renewable Projects

The Solution

Proconics Renewable Projects

The project employed a unique solution to meet the client’s need – a centralized, string inverter solution – with string inverters installed in a containerized solution, which included all the monitoring, LV switchgear, transformers, and MV switchgear.

This provided the client with the combined advantages of the plug-and-play nature of centralized inverters with the simplicity and redundancy provided by string inverters.

Ndiza/Ruo 15MW Hydro Power Station RMU and Accessories

Ndiza 15MW

Our Scope

Proconics’ scope on the Ndiza or Ruo 15MW Hydro Power Station was the design, procurement, supply, installation supervision, and commissioning of all parts of the MV electrical works including the outgoing 33kV switchgear, 33kV pole mount equipment, 5km of steel pole overhead lines, SCADA system, and BTU equipment.

Proconics Renewable Projects

The Solution

Proconics Renewable Projects

This was one of the first IPP projects in Malawi and approval of the design of the switchgear, SCADA systems, and overhead lines were required from Escom. Late in the project program, Escom requested a steel overhead line, rather than the originally planned wooden poles. In addition this was the first steel pole 33kV line ever built for Escom. This required the team to quickly adapt to assist the client in meeting the project schedule. A bespoke, non-tapered, design was done to minimise the manufacturing time.

Nyanga 50MVA transformer upgrade

Nyanga 50MVA trfr

Our Scope

As part of the Tsanga 3MW hydropower station in the Nyanga region of Zimbabwe, there was a need to upgrade the existing ZETDC Nyanga substation. This included the addition of a new 132kV/33kV 50 MVA Transformer bay and a new 33kV feeder bay to an existing ZETDC substation. This included the transformer, HGIS 132kV switchgear, 33kV AIS switchgear, protection and control panels including SCADA equipment.

Proconics Renewable Projects

The Solution

Proconics Renewable Projects

ZETDC had initially indicated to the client that they would self execute the upgrade. However, due to the economic situation in Zimbabwe ZETDC decided late in the project to indicate to the IPP that the works must be executed by the IPP. To assist the client. Proconics used its strong relationship with its suppliers to negotiate exceptional lead times. The project was completed within 8 months of order placement.

Testing of Protection at 2 x 30MW Solar Farms in Limpopo, South Africa

Limpopo

Our Scope

The primary and secondary testing of two 132kV transformer feeders, two 20MVA 22/132kV Transformers and the 22kV collector board including 8 solar incomers.

testing2.jpg

The Solution

To comply with latest grid code IPPs need to retest the protection and control of their substations every 5 years. Proconics performed the retesting of the two 132kV transformer feeder bays (transformer protection relays, HV breakers, isolators, CV's and VT's), the transformers (ratio, resistance and VLF), the 22kV main collector board and VLF of the MV cables in the planned schedule. During recommissioning most of the generated power was still exported through the one feeder while testing commenced on the other feeder. An earth resistance audit was done on the earth resistance and on all equipment connections. All test results was finally issued in a commissioning file.

SCADA System upgrade at Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms in Eastern Cape, South Africa

SCADA

Our Scope

Updating the current HMI (CitectSCADA 7.40) System to include the new Bus-Tie Feeders which was installed recently. The Local HMI system had to graphically represent the current electrical infrastructure and retrieve the relevant data for visualizing and alarming from the new relays via IEC-61850. The engineering style had to be maintained across the entire HMI design.

The Solution

To Reverse engineer the current HMI system to implement the new Bus-Tie Feeders.

Grid Compliance Studies for 40MW Garneton Solar Farm, Zambia

Garneton Solar Farm

Our Scope

Performing the grid code compliance studies required for the Innovent-CEC Garneton North PV facilities.

grid3.png

The Solution

grid2.png

Proconics performed the grid code compliance studies required for the 40MW Innovent-CEC Garneton North PV facilities to assist our client reach financial closure. The studies were interesting due to the fact that the 40MW plant is connecting 40MW at 33kV on a weak part of the grid. This created the need for design changes to achieve grid compliance.
